SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON TRANSAXLE OIL COOLER LINE SERVICE PRECAUTIONS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1993 "E","K", "V" MODELS

Care must be taken to prevent twisting of the transaxle cooler pipe/hose assemblies during service procedures which may necessitate the removal or disconnection of these lines.

It is possible to cause a crimp in either oil cooler hoses while tightening the fitting. The return line assembly can also be rotated 360 degrees during installation which causes the hose material to twist and restrict the fluid flow to the transaxle.

NOTE: The hose sections of the return lines are protected by plastic conduits which could prevent a technician from easily seeing this condition.

The reduced fluid flow in either case can cause transaxle damage or failure.

To prevent possible damage to the transaxle after service of the cooler line:

1. Carefully hold the sending or lower pipe in place with pliers or lightly locked vise grips (take care not to crimp the pipe) to prevent rotation while tightening the fitting.

2. Peel back the conduit on the return (upper) hose and visually inspect both upper and lower hoses to detect any twisting which may have occurred. If twisting has occurred, disconnect the line and reorient the pipe to eliminate the problem. Conduit should be reinstalled once the proper orientation has been confirmed.
