IMPROPER OPERATION OF CONSOLE ASHTRAY LATCH

SUBJECT: IMPROPER OPERATION OF CONSOLE ASHTRAY LATCH (INSTALL NEW ASHTRAY LATCH FOLLOWER ARM)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992-93 "E" AND "K" MODELS

Some 1992-1993 Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with the full floor console may experience improper operation of the console ashtray latch assembly, resulting in an ashtray which may not consistently latch in the closed position. To repair this condition install a revised ashtray latch follower arm, P/N 3543470, as described below:

1. Remove radio trim plate. Refer to Figure 1.

2. Turn ignition to "OFF" position and move shift lever to "REVERSE". Remove console trim plate by disengaging five clips. Position trim plate to gain access to ashtray follower arm. Refer to Figure 2.

NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect trim plate harness or to remove trim plate from vehicle to replace follower arm.

3. Using a small screwdriver remove follower arm from ashtray housing.

4. Install a new follower arm, P/N 3543470, by snapping follower arm into position.

5. Install console trim plate and radio trim plate.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
