The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Service ride control message displayed with one of the following DTCs set.
• | SO70 LF ROTARY COMBINATION SENSOR ACCELEROMETER SIGNAL FAULT |
• | SO71 RF ROTARY COMBINATION SENSOR ACCELEROMETER SIGNAL FAULT |
• | SO72 LR ROTARY COMBINATION SENSOR ACCELEROMETER SIGNAL FAULT |
• | SO73 RR ROTARY COMBINATION SENSOR ACCELEROMETER SIGNAL FAULT |
Condition returns after replacing Rotary Combination Sensor (RCS).
Early 1995 production RSS system (1st generation) used a RCS that included an accelerometer and position sensor. A 2nd generation RSS system was implemented mid year 95 which uses an RCS which excludes the accelerometer. The accelerometer data for the 2nd generation is calculated internally by the RSS controller.
If a 2nd generation RCS (without accelerometer) is used with a 1st generation RSS controller, one of the above accelerometer codes will set.
The following VIN break is when the 2nd generation RSS system was implemented: EB 617074, KB 826396, KSP 281783.
Correction: For vehicles with 1st generation RSS controllers use only 1st generation RCS's. The part numbers for the 1st and 2nd generation RSS controllers and RCS's are as follows:
1ST GENERATION | 2ND GENERATION | ||
---|---|---|---|
CONTROLLER | RCS | CONTROLLER | RCS |
16205316 | 22152814 (LF) | 16209166 | 22153232 (LF) |
22152815 (RF) | 22153233 (RF) | ||
22152816 (LR) | 22153234 (LR) | ||
22152817 (RR) | 22153235 (RR) |
If only 2nd generation RCS's are available, the RSS controller must replaced with a 2nd generation unit.
Note: The 2nd generation RSS controller will interface with the 1st generation RCS's. If an accelerometer code is set in a 1st generation vehicle.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
