SUBJECT: POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE (INTERMITTENT) AFTER EXPRESS DOWN FEATURE IS USED (REPLACE LH FRONT POWER WINDOW SWITCH)

MODELS: 1996-97 CADILLAC CONCOURS, DEVILLE, ELDORADO, SEVILLE 1997 CADILLAC D'ELEGANCE

BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINTS:

MODEL VIN # ===== =====

CONCOURS/D'ELEGANCE/DEVILLE 245641 ELDORADO 609489 SEVILLE 817096

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO RAISE THE POWER WINDOW AFTER THE EXPRESS DOWN WINDOW FEATURE HAS BEEN USED. THIS CONDITION IS INTERMITTENT AND TYPICALLY CLEARS ITSELF AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. (THIS CONDITION MAY OCCUR ON VEHICLES BUILT WITH VIN'S BEFORE THE BREAKPOINTS LISTED ABOVE.)

CAUSE:

ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE ON THE BATTERY FEED LINE TO THE LH FRONT POWER WINDOW SWITCH MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THIS CONDITION. THIS INTERFERENCE MAY PREVENT THE EXPRESS DOWN MODULE IN THE LH FRONT POWER WINDOW SWITCH FROM DETECTING THE MOTOR STALL POINT DURING EXPRESS DOWN OPERATION. THE MOTOR WILL CONTINUE TO RUN UNTIL THE MOTOR THERMAL OVERLOAD TRIPS, TEMPORARILY DISABLING THE LH FRONT POWER WINDOW MOTOR. ONCE THE MOTOR COOLS, THE POWER WINDOW FUNCTIONS RETURN.

ON THE 1996 DEVILLE ONLY, A SIMILAR CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY THE LH FRONT POWER WINDOW SWITCH BUTTONS PHYSICALLY STICKING.

CORRECTION:

REPLACE THE LH FRONT POWER WINDOW SWITCH. REFER TO THE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE IN THE APPLICABLE SERVICE MANUAL.
