Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the right front gusset. Refer to Gusset Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.

  3. Object Number: 723742  Size: SH
  4. Remove the nut securing the battery negative cable to the engine.

  5. Object Number: 640488  Size: SH
  6. Remove the nut (1) securing the battery negative cable to the side rail.
  7. Remove the battery negative cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the battery negative cable to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 640488  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the nut (1) securing the battery negative cable to the side rail.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the battery negative cable to side rail nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  5. Install the nut securing the battery negative cable to the engine.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the battery negative cable to engine nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the right front gusset. Refer to Gusset Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.
  8. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
