Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheel.
  3. Remove the wheel bearing and hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  4. Support the lower control arm with a screw jack.

  6. Remove the wheel speed sensor wiring harness bracket bolt from the knuckle.

  7. Object Number: 161657  Size: SH
  8. Remove the rear toe link to knuckle retaining bolt and discard. The bolt is not reusable.

  9. Object Number: 161656  Size: SH
  10. Remove the lower control arm to knuckle mounting nut and bolt.
  11. Remove the upper control arm to knuckle mounting nut and bolt.
  12. Remove the knuckle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the knuckle to the vehicle.
  2. Ensure the rear suspension is at proper trim height. Refer to Trim Height Specifications in Suspension General Diagnosis.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the knuckle to lower control arm mounting bolt and the nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the knuckle to lower control arm mounting bolt and nut to 108 N·m (80 lb ft).

  6. Install the knuckle to upper control arm mounting bolt and nut.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the knuckle to upper control arm mounting bolt and nut to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  8. Connect the wheel speed sensor cable bracket and retaining bolt to the knuckle.

  9. Object Number: 161657  Size: SH
  10. Install the new rear toe link outer retaining bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the toe link outer retaining bolt to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  12. Install the wheel bearing and hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  13. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
