Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Loosen park brake cable adjuster to relieve tension on park brake cables.
  3. Lower vehicle.
  4. Remove closeout/insulator panel to access lever assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  5. Pull the carpet back to expose park brake cable.
  6. Remove the park brake cable retaining nut.

  8. Disconnect the front park brake cable from lever assembly.

  9. Object Number: 262985  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the park brake switch.
  11. Disconnect the vacuum line (2) from the brake release solenoid.

  12. Remove the park brake lever assembly mounting nuts/nut (1, 2).
  13. Remove the park brake lever assembly from the vehicle.

    9.1. If park brake pedal assembly is being replaced remove the following:
    9.2. Remove the park brake warning lamp switch mounting bolt.
    9.3. Remove the park brake warning lamp switch from the park brake pedal assembly.
    9.4. Remove the park brake release solenoid mounting bolt.
    9.5. Remove the park brake release solenoid from the park brake pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. If a new park brake lever assembly is being install the following parts:
  2. • Install the park brake release solenoid to the park brake pedal assembly.
    • Install the park brake release solenoid mounting bolt.

    Tighten
    Tighten the park brake release solenoid mounting bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

    • Install the park brake warning lamp switch to the park brake pedal assembly.
    • Install the park brake warning lamp switch mounting bolt.

    Tighten
    Tighten the park brake warning lamp switch mounting bolt to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  3. Install park brake lever assembly to the mounting studs.
  4. Install lever mounting nuts/bolt (1, 2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake lever mounting nuts/bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the park brake switch.
  7. Connect the vacuum line (2) to the park brake release solenoid.

  8. Connect the front park brake cable to the lever assembly.
  9. Install the park brake cable retaining nut.
  10. Reposition carpet.
  11. Install the closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  12. Raise and suitably support to vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  13. Adjust the park brake.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
