Schematic Reference: Shift Lock Control Schematics

DEFINITION: Transmission shift lever does not lock in the PARK position with the ignition ON and the brake pedal not pressed.

Did you perform A Diagnostic System Check - Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System?

Go to Step 2

  1. Apply the parking brake and block the wheels.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Attempt to move the shift lever out of the PARK position without pressing the brake pedal.

Does the shift lever move out of the park position?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Move the shift lever to the PARK position.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool observe the PARK relay status in the body control module (PZM) data display list.

Does the scan tool display an ON status for the PARK relay?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the PARK relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the ignition 1 voltage circuit at the PARK relay connector and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the PARK relay and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the PARK relay and the PARK relay control circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool command the PARK relay ON and OFF.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper between the battery positive voltage circuit and the automatic transmission shift lock control switch supply voltage circuit at the PARK relay connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Apply the parking brake and block the wheels.
  5. Attempt to move the shift lever out of the PARK position.

Does the shift lever move out of the PARK position?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the 10-amp fused jumper.
  3. Install the PARK relay.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the automatic transmission shift lock control switch supply voltage circuit at the automatic transmission shift lock control switch and a good ground.
  5. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Connect a test lamp between the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid supply voltage circuit at the automatic transmission shift lock control switch and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid supply voltage circuit at the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid ground circuit at the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid and battery positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?
