Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
- Remove the IP carrier support. Refer to
Instrument Panel Carrier Support Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages and
Console.
- Remove the air distribution duct. Refer to
Air Distributor Duct Replacement
.
- Remove the air inlet assembly. Refer to
Air Inlet Assembly Replacement
.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from HVAC module.
- Lower the engine. Refer to
Engine Replacement
in Engine Mechanical 4.6 L.
- Disconnect the A/C lines from the evaporator core.
- Remove the heater hoses from heater core. Refer to
Heater Hoses Replacement
.
- Remove the blower motor.

Blower Motor Replacement
.
- Remove the evaporator
drain.
- Remove the evaporator
rubber barrier cover.
- Remove the heater and evaporator module retaining nuts.
- Remove the heater and evaporator module assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the heater and evaporator module assembly.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the heater and evaporator module retaining nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 13 N·m (10 lb ft).
- Install the evaporator
rubber barrier cover.
- Install the blower motor.

- Install the air distribution duct. Refer to
Air Distributor Duct Replacement

- Install the air inlet housing. Refer to
Air Inlet Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the evaporator
drain.
- Raise the engine. Refer to
Engine Replacement
in Engine Mechanical 4.6 L.
- Connect the evaporator hose assembly to the evaporator core.
Tighten
Tighten the evaporator hose assembly to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the IP carrier support. Refer to
Instrument Panel Carrier Support Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages and
Console.
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fittings of the component using theJ 39400-A
.
