J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Important: The refrigerant filter, AC P/N 15-1697 must be installed to the A/C condenser tube between the condenser and evaporator. The installation of this refrigerant filter eliminates the need for flushing.

    Object Number: 717264 Size: SH
  1. Measure 60 mm (2.36 in) from high side temperature sensor and mark the location (1).
  2. Measure 50.8 mm (1.99 in) from the mark on the condenser tube from step 3 and mark the line (2).
  3. Important: Do not allow metal burrs to enter the tube during cutting or when removing the burrs.

  4. Using a tubing cutter, cut out the marked section of the condenser tube.

  5. Object Number: 717259 Size: SH
  6. Remove the burrs from the condenser tube.

  7. Object Number: 718864 Size: SH
  8. Remove the nuts (4), ferrules (3), and O-rings (2) from the in-line filter (1).
  9. Important: Do not install the O-rings in this step.

  10. Push the nuts (4) and ferrules (3) onto each cut end of the condenser tube.
  11. Install the ferrules (3) with the small end toward the nut (4).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  13. Install the refrigerant filter to the condenser tube with the flow arrow pointing toward the evaporator.
  14. Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

    Object Number: 718864 Size: SH
  15. Remove the nuts (4) from the refrigerant filter (1).
  16. Coat the O-rings (3) with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  17. Install the O-rings (3) to the evaporator tube.
  18. Install the nuts (4) to the refrigerant filter.
  19. Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  20. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  21. Leak test the fitting of the filter using the J 39400-A .
