The fuel door release system consists of the following components:

    • Fuel door release switch
    • Fuel door release relay
    • Body Control Module (BCM)
    • Instrument cluster

When the fuel door release switch is operated, the fuel door release switch input is grounded in the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster will send a class 2 message to the body control module (BCM). The BCM will ground the coil side of the fuel door release relay. When the coil side of the fuel door release relay is grounded the switch side contacts close and energize the fuel door release actuator. The fuel door will release.
