Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate as described in the Description and Operation?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Door Lock Switch parameter in the Body Control Module (BCM) Inputs list.

Does the scan tool display Idle?

Go to Step 4

Activate the door lock switches to both the Lock and Unlock positions.

Did the parameter change to both Lock and Unlock with each corresponding switch press?

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the passenger door power lock actuator.
  2. With a test lamp connected to a good ground, probe the door lock actuator lock control circuit of the harness connector.
  3. Activate the passenger door lock switch to the Lock position.

Did the test lamp illuminate when you activated the lock switch to the Lock position?

Go to Step  6

  1. With a test lamp connected to a good ground, probe the door lock actuator unlock control circuit of the harness connector.
  2. Activate the passenger door lock switch to the Unlock position

Did the test lamp illuminate when you activated the lock switch to the Unlock position?

Go to Step 7

  1. Connect a test lamp between the door lock actuator Lock and Unlock control circuits of the harness connector.
  2. Activate the passenger door lock switch to both the Lock and Unlock positions.

Did the test lamp illuminate for each position?

Go to Step 21

  1. Disconnect the power door lock relay.
  2. With the test lamp connected to battery positive voltage (B+), probe the ground circuit of the harness connector.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect one of the door lock switches.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Door Lock Switch parameter in the BCM Inputs list.

Does the scan tool display Idle?

Go to Step 23

  1. Disconnect the other door lock switch.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Door Lock Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Idle?

Go to Step 23

  1. Disconnect the harness connector of the door lock switch that did not display both Lock and Unlock.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the switch signal circuit of the inoperative state and a good ground.

Does the scan tool display the inoperative state?

Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the door lock switch signal circuit of the inoperative state and the ground circuit of the harness connector.

Does the scan tool display the inoperative state?

Test the door lock actuator unlock control circuit for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the power door lock relay.
  2. With a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage (B+), probe the power door lock relay unlock control circuit of the harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. With a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage (B+), probe the power door lock relay unlock control circuit of the harness connector.
  2. Activate the passenger door lock switch to the Unlock position.

Did the test lamp illuminate when you activated the lock switch to the Unlock position?

Test the power door lock relay unlock control circuit for a short to battery positive voltage or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
