For 1990-2009 cars only
- Position the absorber lengthwise in an arbor press.
- Use the press in order to compress the unit at least 10 mm (3/8 in).
- Release the pressure.
- Determine whether the unit has returned to the original position. If the unit did not return to the original position, discard the unit.
- Shake the energy absorber.
Note the original position of the unit.
Listen for a loose internal component. If rattling is heard, then the orifice is sheared. Replace the unit.
