Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Open the instrument panel storage compartment door.

  3. Object Number: 310652  Size: LH
  4. Remove the fasteners (2, 7) that retain the instrument panel storage compartment assembly (8) to the instrument panel.
  5. Remove the 2 fasteners from inside the instrument panel storage compartment.
  6. Partially remove the instrument panel storage compartment assembly (8).
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  8. Remove the instrument panel storage compartment.
  9. Remove the switches from the instrument panel storage compartment, if necessary. Refer to the following procedures:
  10. • IP Compartment Lamp Switch
    •  Rear Compartment Lid Valet Lock Out Switch Replacement
    •  Electronic Traction Control Switch Replacement in Antilock Brake System

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the switches to the instrument panel storage compartment, if necessary. Refer to the following procedures:
  2. • IP Compartment Lamp Switch
    •  Rear Compartment Lid Valet Lock Out Switch Replacement
    •  Electronic Traction Control Switch Replacement in Antilock Brake System

  3. Partially install the instrument panel storage compartment.
  4. Connect the electrical connectors.
  5. Install the instrument panel storage compartment assembly (8) to the instrument panel.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the 4 fasteners (2, 7) in order to retain the instrument panel storage compartment to the instrument panel.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  9. Install the 2 fasteners to the inside of the instrument panel storage compartment.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  11. Close the instrument panel storage compartment door.
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
