Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the center console . Refer to Console Replacement .

  4. Remove the support cover (4) from the hinge pillar tie bar support brace (2).
  5. Remove the steering column opening bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement .
  6. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  7. Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  8. Remove the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  9. Remove the storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  10. Disconnect the aspirator tube.
  11. Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
  12. Remove the PSIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  13. Remove the instrument panel trim panels. Refer to both of the following procedures:
  14. •  Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side
    •  Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side
  15. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  16. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  17. Lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  19. Remove the right instrument panel to hinge pillar tie bar fastener (1).

  20. Object Number: 595797  Size: MH
  21. Remove the center instrument panel to hinge pillar tie bar fasteners (2), on each side of the radio/climate control panel opening.
  22. Remove the lower instrument panel to bracket fasteners (1), at each end of the IP.
  23. Remove the instrument panel to dash panel fasteners (3, 4).
  24. Partially remove the instrument panel.
  25. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  26. Push the aspirator tube through the IP.
  27. With the aid from an assistant, remove the instrument panel assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 657726  Size: SH
  1. Ensure the retainer nuts to the dash panel are not damaged or broken. If broken or damaged nuts are present, replace the retainer nuts.
  2. With the aid from an assistant, partially install the instrument panel assembly.
  3. Connect the electrical connectors.
  4. Pull the aspirator tube through the IP to the original location.
  5. Align the instrument panel to the hinge pillar tie bar mounting brackets.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the instrument panel fasteners (3).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  9. Install the instrument panel to dash panel fasteners (4).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the fastener to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  11. Install the lower instrument panel to bracket fasteners (1).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  13. Install the 4 center instrument panel to tie bar fasteners (2).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  15. Install the right instrument panel to tie bar fastener (1).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the fastener to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  17. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  18. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  19. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  20. Install the instrument panel trim plates. Refer to both of the following procedures:
  21. •  Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side
    •  Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side
  22. Install the PSIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  23. Connect the aspirator tube to the inside air temperature sensor.
  24. Connect the electrical connector.
  25. Install the instrument panel storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  26. Install the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  27. Install the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  28. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  29. Install the steering column opening bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement .

  31. Install the support cover (4) to the hinge pillar tie bar support brace (2).
  32. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  33. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
