Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Insert a CD magazine with at least 1 audio CD into the CD player.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn ON the radio.
  4. Play the CD in the CD player.

Does the CD player play without noise?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Is noise present only on one channel?

Go to Step 4

Test the output circuit of the suspect channel for a short, high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the shield ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the common output circuit for a short, high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect the audio harness shield for damage.

  1. Disconnect the CD player.
  2. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the CD player. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the CD player. Refer to Remote CD Changer Replacement .
