Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the washer solvent pump hose.

  2. Object Number: 585863  Size: SH
  3. Remove the air filter housing. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.6L.
  4. Reposition the powertrain control module.
  5. Remove the upper mounting screw securing the washer solvent container to the upper fender rail.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  7. Object Number: 655710  Size: SH
  8. Remove the front bumper fascia (2). Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  9. Remove the secondary air injection pump. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Pump Replacement in Engine Controls-4.6L.

  10. Object Number: 797912  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors (7,8) from the level sensor and washer pump.
  12. Drain the washer solvent container into a suitable container.
  13. Remove the washer pump hose (2).
  14. Remove the 2 nuts (4,6) nuts securing the washer solvent container to the body rail studs (1,3).
  15. Remove the washer solvent container from the vehicle.
  16. Remove the washer pump (5) from the washer solvent container.
  17. Remove the washer solvent level sensor (9) from the washer solvent container.
  18. Remove the washer solvent container cap and hose.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the washer solvent level sensor (9) onto the washer solvent container.
  2. Install the washer pump (5) onto the washer solvent container.
  3. Position the washer solvent container to the body rail studs (1,3).
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the washer solvent container with 2 nuts (4,6).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 nuts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  7. Connect the electrical connectors (7,8).
  8. Connect the washer solvent hose (2) to the washer pump.
  9. Install the secondary air injection pump. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Pump Replacement in Engine Controls-4.6L.

  10. Object Number: 655710  Size: SH
  11. Install the front bumper fascia (2). Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Object Number: 585863  Size: SH
  14. Install the upper mounting screw to the upper fender rail.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  16. Reposition the powertrain control module.
  17. Install the air filter housing. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.6L.
  18. Connect the washer solvent pump hose.
  19. Fill the washer solvent container.
  20. Install the washer solvent container cap.
  21. Inspect the wiper washer system operation.
