Tools Required
J 25070 Heat Gun
Removal Procedure
Important: A GM service kit is included with a new rain sensor module.
- Use the tape (1)
in order to mark the rain sensor module (2) location on the outside
of the windshield.
- Disconnect the connector (1)
from the rain sensor module (2).
Notice: Use only enough heat to melt the adhesive. Use of excessive heat may
damage the sensor module or the windshield.
- Apply heat to the sensor (2) area of the windshield.
Use a J 25070
or equivalent
heat gun with a maximum of 740 watts.
- Cover the instrument panel below the sensor with a protective
cloth.
- In order to remove the
rain sensor (2) from the windshield, carefully twist the sensor back
and forth.
Remove the rain sensor module from the windshield.
- Remove the tape residue from the windshield using isopropyl alcohol
and a lint-free cloth.
Caution: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into
the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.
- Use a sharp plastic scraper in order to remove the optical
tape from the windshield.
- Use a clean lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol.
- Wipe the windshield until the remaining tape residue is completely
removed.
Installation Procedure
Important: The temperature of the windshield must be 13-38°C (55-100°F)
for proper adhesion.
- Remove the protective covering from the optical tape.
Install the sensor on the windshield.
- Firmly push around the entire periphery of the rain sensor to
windshield in order to remove any air bubbles from the tape.
- Hold the sensor for 10 to 15 seconds.
- Inspect the sensor for air bubbles between the tape and the windshield.
- Repeat the previous steps, if incomplete adhesion or air bubbles
are present.
- Attach the rain sensor (2)
to the windshield.
Important: Do not move or shift the sensor on the windshield after installation.
- Connect the electrical connector (1) to the sensor (2).
- Remove the tape (1) from the windshield.
- Inspect the operation of the rain sensing wiper system for proper
operation.
