Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch through all the switch positions.

Does the windshield wiper/washer system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the HIGH position.

Do the wiper arms continuously cycle in and out of the park position?

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the windshield wiper motor high speed circuit terminal in the harness connector to a good ground.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the HIGH position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Connect a test lamp from the windshield wiper motor high speed circuit terminal to the ground circuit terminal in the wiper motor harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 18

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor module connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit terminal in the harness connector to ground.
  3. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the LOW speed position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the accessory relay in the underhood electrical center.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the relay coil supply circuit terminal in the underhood electrical center to a good ground.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp from the relay coil supply circuit terminal to the relay coil ground circuit terminal in the underhood electrical center.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp from the relay switch supply circuit terminal in the underhood electrical center to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper/washer switch connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal in the windshield wiper/washer switch harness connector to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.

Test windshield wiper/washer switch signal 2 circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the relay switch supply circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper/washer switch accessory voltage supply circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the windshield wiper motor ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the accessory relay coil supply circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the accessory relay coil ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the following circuits for a short to ground:

    • Windshield wiper/washer switch accessory voltage supply circuit
    • Windshield washer switch signal circuit
    • Windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit
    • Windshield wiper motor low speed circuit
    • Windshield wiper motor high speed circuit

Refer to Circuit Testing or Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .
