Service Procedure

Important: During the drive audit, follow these guidelines:

   • Adhere to safe driving practices and all traffic laws.
   • Drive the vehicle on a straight road at speeds of 72-97 km/h (45-60 mph).
   • Take note of objectionable steering wheel pull to the right or to the left. Ignore the steering wheel level. Driver feel should be based on input to the hands on the wheel while the driver is watching the road.
   • Drive the vehicle in the opposite direction in order to determine if the prevailing winds are causing the pull condition.

  1. Adjust the tire pressure to specification.
  2. Inspect for the proper trim heights.
  3. Test the brakes for drag.
  4. Road test the vehicle.
  5. • If the vehicle does not lead/pull, no further action is required. Proceed to Step 16.
    • If the vehicle leads/pulls, proceed to Step 5.
  6. Cross switch the front tire and wheel assemblies.
  7. Road test the vehicle.
  8. • If the vehicle does not lead/pull, no further action is required. Proceed to Step 16.

    • If the vehicle leads/pulls, proceed to Step 9.
  9. Switch the left front tire and wheel assembly with the left rear tire and wheel assembly.
  10. Road test the vehicle.
  11. • If the vehicle does not lead/pull, replace the left rear tire, then proceed to Step 15.
    • If the vehicle leads/pulls, proceed to Step 9.
  12. Switch the right front tire and wheel assembly with the right rear tire and wheel assembly.
  13. Road test the vehicle.
  14. • If the vehicle does not lead/pull, replace the right rear tire, then proceed to Step 16.
    • If the vehicle leads/pulls, proceed to Step 11.
  15. Inspect the caster/camber/toe and cross-caster/cross-camber.
  16. • If the alignment is not within specification, proceed to Step 12.
    • If the alignment is within specification and still leads/pulls to the left, proceed to Step 14.
    • If the alignment is within specification and still leads/pulls to the right, proceed to Step 15.
  17. Adjust the front wheel alignment to specification. Refer to the table at the end of this procedure.
  18. Road test the vehicle.

    • If the vehicle leads/pulls to the right, proceed to Step 15.
  20. Decrease the right caster in increments of 0.5 degrees until the lead/pull is eliminated. Do not exceed 2 degrees of cross-caster. Proceed to Step 16.
