J 39400 Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  3. Remove the hood primary latch support.
  4. Remove the auxiliary cooling fan, if equipped. Refer to Auxiliary Engine Coolant Fan and Fan Motor Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. Disconnect the refrigerant hose from the condenser. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  6. Disconnect the evaporator tube from the condenser. Refer to Evaporator Tube Replacement .
  7. Cap or plug all the open connections.

  9. Remove the bolts.
  10. Remove the brackets.
  11. Remove the upper insulators.
  12. Remove the condenser from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 257994  Size: SH
  1. Install the condenser.
  2. If the condenser is being replaced, add oil. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  3. Install the upper insulators.
  4. Install the brackets.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4.5 N·m (40 lb in).

  8. Connect the evaporator tube to the condenser. Refer to Evaporator Tube Replacement .
  9. Connect the refrigerant hose to the condenser. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  10. Install the auxiliary cooling fan, if equipped. Refer to Auxiliary Engine Coolant Fan and Fan Motor Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  11. Install the hood primary latch support.
  12. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  13. Charge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  14. Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400 .
