Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
.
- Roll the instrument panel (IP) forward. Refer to
Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Remove the fasteners (5)
from the studs (4) attaching the inflatable restraint IP module to
the mounting bracket.
- Remove the inflatable restraint IP module (2) from the
front of the IP. Keep a firm hold on the module.
- Remove the yellow 2-way electrical harness connector at the left
side of the mounting bracket.
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the electrical
harness connector.
- Disconnect the yellow pigtail connector (3) on the inflatable
restraint IP module from the harness connector.
- Remove the inflatable restraint IP module from the IP (1).
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced
under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required
retention period. Refer to
Inflator Module Handling, Shipping, and Scrapping
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the inflatable restraint IP module to the IP (1).
- Connect the yellow pigtail connector (3) on the inflatable
restraint IP module to the electrical harness connector.
- Install the CPA.
- Connect the yellow 2-way electrical harness connector to the mounting
on the left side of the mounting bracket.
- Install 2 new retainer J-clips to the mounting bracket.
- Install the inflatable restraint IP module (2) to the mounting
bracket through the front of the instrument panel (1). Use the 2 retainer
J-clips in order to hold the IP module in position.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the fasteners (5) to the studs (4) of the inflatable
restraint IP module.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Roll the IP forward. Refer to
Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
.
