The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Engineering is looking for some help with root causing tire wear concerns on light duty trucks and cars.

  1. When labor code E2000 (Toe Set) or E2020 (Wheel Alignment) is used outside of the normal mileage allowance of 500 to 7,500 miles (800 to 12,000 km), please document on the repair order, in as much detail as possible, what the customer's concern is relative to the severity and type of tire wear; for example, severe center wear or severe inside or outside shoulder wear. Please also document the tire inflation pressure when the vehicle came in and the condition of the tires.
  2. If the concern is for slight or mild feathering type wear on the tires, review with the customer their past tire rotation history as tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles (8,000 to 13,000 km). SOME TIRE FEATHERING IS A NORMAL PART OF TIRE WEAR AND THROUGH PROPER TIRE ROTATION AND INFLATION, THIS TIRE WEAR CAN BE MINIMIZED AND TIRE LIFE MAXIMIZED; if the customer has not rotated tires within the last 5,000 to 8,000 miles (8,000 to 13,000 km), a tire rotation is necessary to clean-up the feathering rather than placing the vehicle on the alignment machine.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
