If the customer has not commented about this condition or the EI does not show in GMVIS, disregard the bulletin and proceed with diagnostics found in published service information. Condition

Important:  If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this issue, DO NOT proceed with this bulletin.

Some customers may comment on a service suspension message. The technician may also find DTCs C0550 and/or C0895 stored in history.

Cause

GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of this condition. Analysis of ESC (Electronic Suspension Control) modules returned through the warranty parts center has resulted in No Trouble Found. It is important to note that DTC C0550 may set when a low battery condition has occurred (less than 9.5 volts). It may also be possible for DTC C0550 to reset after clearing codes with the scan tool, until the ignition is cycled OFF then ON.

Correction

DO NOT REPLACE THE ESC MODULE.

Use the following information to diagnose the customer's concern. When possible, note as much of the following information as possible on the repair order.

  1. What is the specific customer's concern?
  2. Has the vehicle recently had a dead battery and/or been jump started?
  3. Are there any aftermarket electrical components added to the vehicle? If so, explain what and where they are tied into the electrical system.
  4. Resolve any condition that may have resulted in a low battery.
  5. Note and clear all codes.
  6. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
  7. Check for codes. Document all DTCs on the repair order. If any DTCs other than C0550 or C0895 are set, diagnose and correct those concerns before proceeding with step 8.
  8. Clear and check for codes again. Is C0550 (Service Suspension message) still present?
  9. Contact either of the engineers listed below:
