DTC P0712: Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit Low VoltageDTC P0713: Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage
Circuit/System Description
The transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor is located inside of the transmission control module (TCM) assembly and is not serviced separately. The TFT sensor provides transmission fluid temperature to the TCM. This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved.
Conditions for Running the DTC
| • | Ignition voltage is between 8.6-18.0 volts. |
| • | The engine speed is 500-7500 RPM for at least 5 seconds. |
DTC P0712
| • | The transmission output shaft speed is greater than 200 RPM for greater than 200 seconds. |
| • | The torque converter clutch (TCC) slip speed is equal to or greater than 200 RPM for 200 seconds or greater. |
| • | DTC P0712 is not failed this ignition cycle. |
DTC P0713
DTC P0713 is not failed this ignition cycle.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P0712
The TCM power up temperature is less than or equal to -74°C (-101°F) for greater than 25 seconds.
P0713
The TFT is greater than or equal to 174°C (345°F) for greater than 10 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
| • | DTCs P0712 and P0713 are Type C DTCs. |
| • | The TCM freezes transmission adaptive functions. |
| • | The TCM allows the vehicle to operate in transmission protection mode. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTCs P0712 and P0713 are Type C DTCs.

Circuit/System Verification
- Start the engine and operate the vehicle at 64 km/h (40 mph) while observing the TCM start up temperature sensor and the TFT sensor.
- The system is operating normally if the TCM start up temperature is within 10°C (18°F) of the TFT temperature.
Circuit/System Testing
Clear the DTC and operate the vehicle under the conditions for running and setting the DTC. Verify that the DTC does not reset.

Component Testing
Perform the Control Solenoid Valve and Transmission Control Module Assembly Inspection .
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
