Removal Procedure
- Remove the exhaust manifold
pipe, if necessary. Refer to
Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement
.
- Remove the catalytic converter, if necessary. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
.
- Remove the exhaust front heat shield nuts.
- Remove the exhaust front heat shield from the studs.
- If vehicle is a crew cab
pick-up truck, remove the exhaust heat shield nuts.
- Remove the exhaust heat shield(s) from the studs.
- If vehicle is a sport
utility vehicle, remove the exhaust heat shield nuts.
- Remove the exhaust heat shield from the studs.
Installation Procedure
- If vehicle is a sport
utility vehicle, install the exhaust heat shield to the studs.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the exhaust heat shield nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- If the vehicle is a crew
cab pick-up truck, install the exhaust heat shield(s) to the studs.
- Install the exhaust heat shield nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the exhaust front
heat shield to the studs.
- Install the exhaust front heat shield nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the catalytic converter, if necessary. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
.
- Install the exhaust manifold pipe, if necessary. Refer to
Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement
