Service VME - Power Steering Pump Noise

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

There have been customer concerns that while turning the steering wheel, there is a noise from the front of the vehicle. On vehicles built prior to March 1, 2002, the steering pump may exhibit a deformation of the case. It looks like the pump was inflated or bubbled up. The fill rate at the assembly plant exceeded the requirements causing excessive pressure in the pump. If you receive a complaint for power steering noise, inspect the pump for any deformation.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
