05 Chevrolet GMC Cadillac Full-Size Truck and Utilities with RVC Battery MIL On and/or Service Charging System Message Displayed - kw b1390 b1516 generator program module voltage charge

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Some customers may comment that their battery tell tale light is on and/or the Service Charging System message is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC) for 2005 model year light duty (1500 Series) full size pickups and utilities with the new regulated voltage control system (RVC). Also, DTC B1390 and/or B1516 may be set. Root cause appears to be multiple circuit board issues (e.g. soldering / component damage). Supplier has made manufacturing process and part design changes from August - December, 2004. Vehicles built after January 18, 2005 should have all the latest enhancements to the RVC system.

Fix remains to replace the Generator Battery Control Module. (Note: The Generator Battery Control Module is directional and must be installed with the connector end towards the battery.)

Please Note: If the Generator Battery Control Module is replaced it must be SPS programmed using TIS2000.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
