The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
A concern of the hazard flashers intermittently coming on by themselves. Early feedback indicate this to be moisture intrusion at the turn signal/hazard flasher module.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Root cause appears to be an internal circuit board short (dendritic growth across the ESD protection capacitor is shorting the hazard flasher input to ground thereby activating the unit). Current production fix (4/06) is to remove the ESD capacitor from
the circuit board, so false activation will not occur. Service fix is to replace the flasher module.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
