The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

It is possible to inadvertently program a vehicle with a 5th Tire Pressure Sensor if an adjacent vehicle transmits a Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) signal during the learn process. If this occurs, the TPM system will expect a signal from a spare tire sensor when none is installed. A "Check Tire Pressure Message" may be displayed on the DIC and no system codes will be set.

Effective with Tech 2 software version 25.002, the TPM data list will now display the spare tire ID and spare tire pressure. You can identify the condition above by checking for a spare tire sensor ID in the TPM data list.

If a spare tire sensor has not been programmed, the spare tire ID and pressure will appear as:

Spare Tire ID **************

Spare Tire Pressure 0 psi (0 kPa)

If there is an ID number shown proceed with the following procedure

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the spare tire ID indicates that a sensor has been learned and no sensor is present in the spare tire, a normal 4 sensor relearn operation WILL NOT clear the spare tire ID. Using the Tech 2 follow the procedure below:

  1. Build the Tech 2 for the vehicle being worked on.
  2. Go into Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Special Functions / Spare Tire Monitoring Disable.
  3. Once at the Spare Tire Monitoring Disable screen use the "Disable" soft key at the bottom of the screen to clear the spare tire ID.
  4. Check the spare tire ID on the Tech 2 should be read all asterisks " ********** ".

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
