The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A dealer may encounter a vehicle with all four O2 sensor heater codes set. The trouble codes associated with is concern will be P0135 P0141 P0155 P0161 for 1999 to 2004 model years, and P0053 P0054 P0059 P0060 for 2004 to current model year. The condition may be intermittent and not duplicated at the dealer.

A add-on remote start system may induce O2 sensor heater trouble codes.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Complete the current SI diagnostics for any symptoms or trouble codes found.

If the diagnostics are inconclusive, inspect the vehicle for a add-on remote start system. In many cases the technician will not receive the remote start key fob when the vehicle is brought in for service. The O2 sensor heater codes may be induced if the remote start system does not power the correct circuits when activated.

The General Motors Technical Assistance Center (GMTAC) uses current SI diagnostics and schematics for repairs. GMTAC will not have access to add-on remote start schematics. If there are any questions about a remote start schematic, or the operation of a add-on remote start system it should be directed to the remote start manufacturer or the system installer.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
