This PI is being updated to add 2006 model year. Please discard PIT3397.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Customer may comment that the Ultra Rear Parking Assist (URPA) is continuously activated with the lights flashing and the beeping chime.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Under certain circumstances a trailer hitch may activate the URPA system. While the system is active the technician will be unable to enter the diagnostic mode. Remove the hitch insert from the weight distribution hitch platform and re-test the vehicle. Depending on the trailer hitch insert design, it may be necessary to turn the URPA system off while the trailer hitch insert is installed in the vehicle.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
