Subject: | Upper Liftgate Molding Rubs Roof When Opening (Adjust Upper Molding) |
Models: | 2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade |
Condition
Some customers may comment that the liftgate upper molding on the top of the liftgate touches the roof when opening.
Cause
The molding may be located too high on the liftgate.
Correction
- Remove the upper liftgate molding following SI.
- Remove the two-way tape from the back side of the molding and or glass.
- Apply 3M™ Automotive Acrylic Plus Attachment Tape to the molding.
- Set the molding in place and Install the center screw attachment snug to the lamp with the wire harness out of the away from attachment location and pull lamp/appliqué down while producing a constant 10-11 mm (0.39-0.43 in)
gap between the roof and the molding seal. Refer to the illustration above. Ensure that the seal has contact to the roof for sealing function and verify the swing clearance to roof. It needs to be approximately 2-4 mm (0.08-0.16 in) at the tightest
location.
- The roof should also be higher than the liftgate molding by 1 to 4 mm (0.04 to 0.16 in). Refer to the illustration above.
- Install the two outboard screws that attach onto the lamp/appliqué and fully tighten to 2 N·m (17 lb in), and then fully tighten the center location screw to 2 N·m (17 lb in).
- Wet-out the two-way tape at the bottom of the molding with a roller or fingers.
- Verify the swing clearance after tightening all three screw locations.
