NO CHARGE TELLTALE GLOWS DIMLY - 1982-1983 DFI C-CARS
A "no charge" telltale lamp which glows dimly under a heavy electrical load (i.e., headlamps, wipers, high fan, rear defogger, etc.) on DFI-equipped 1982 Devilles and Broughams and 1983 Devilles and Broughams built prior to B.C. 130851 may be caused by a telltale lens with insufficient filtering. This can be corrected by the installation of a filter, P/N 25076102, over the "no charge" telltale bulb.
This condition does not indicate a low rate of charge; rather, when the generator is charging at near maximum capacity, the voltage at the generator output is higher than battery voltage. This difference in voltage potential across the telltale bulb results in a dim glow that may be visible through the telltale lens on the above cars.
Install the filter as follows:
1. Remove instrument panel top cover as described on page 8C-2 of the 1983 Service Information Manual.
2. Remove "no charge" telltale bulb.
Install filter over "no charge" telltale bulb.
4. Reinstall telltale bulb and instrument panel top cover.
For warranty purposes, use Operation No. N0640, Telltale Warning Lamp Bulb Replacement, at 0.3 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
