REAR BRAKE NOISE -- 1983 LIMOUSINES
1983 Limousines may experience a condition of a metallic scraping noise from the rear of the vehicle, especially during a right hand turn. This condition may be caused by the left hand brake drum contacting the stationary backing plate.
If you suspect the above, remove the brake drum and check for evidence of interference on the drum. If interference is evident, mount the drum in a brake lathe and machine to remove .040" from section A and .10" at a depth of .17" from section B as shown in Figure 2.
For warranty purposes use Operation No. H0201 at .7 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
