NEW CAR WARRANTIES VS. GM CONTINUOUS PROTECTION PLAN

THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS INSTANCES IN THE PAST YEAR WHERE CADILLAC DEALERS HAVE PERFORMED REPAIRS COVERED BY ONE OF THE CADILLAC NEW CAR WARRANTIES BUT, AS THE OWNER HAS ALSO PURCHASED A CONTINUOUS PROTECTION PLAN, THE CLAIM WAS SUBMITTED TO MIC FOR PAYMENT UNDER GMCPP. THIS IS A DIRECT CONTRADICTION OF THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IN THE 1983 SERVICE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL, SEC. I, PART II, PAGE 30:

"NOTE: THE GM CONTINUOUS PROTECTION PLAN IN NO WAY LIMITS THE TERMS OF THE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY, POWER TRAIN LIMITED WARRANTY, AND THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WARRANTY. REPAIRS QUALIFYING UNDER THESE WARRANTIES SHOULD BE PERFORMED AND CLAIMED IN THE SAME MANNER REGARDLESS OF WHETHER AN OWNER HAS PURCHASED A CONTINUOUS PROTECTION PLAN OR NOT."

PLEASE REVIEW THIS PROCEDURE WITH SERVICE ADVISORS AND CLAIMS PERSONNEL TO ASSURE THAT REPAIRS COVERED BY CADILLAC WARRANTIES ARE PROPERLY FILED WITH CADILLAC, NOT MIC.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
