The June revision of the 1983 Labor Time Guide microfiche contained changes to the "Panel Repair" section (Operations A9040-A9600). The time allowance for these operations was increased to include the necessary paint time and was based on average warranty times. It should be noted that, for warranty purposes, these new 1983 time allowances will also apply to prior model years. The October, 1983 update of prior model year Labor Time Guide microfiche will reflect these new times.
The new times require a change in our handling of warranty metal repair claims with regard to "Other Labor Hours". Paint mix allowance will continue to be listed and accepted as "other labor hours" on these claims without zone approval; however, any claims requesting more than the mix allowance time in Other Labor Hours will require zone authorization. Following is the updated list of all items requiring prior zone authorization before submission:
1. Repairs containing labor operation numbers designated with policy code A in the current Labor Time Guide.
2. Repairs listing replacement of repairable assemblies including trim.
3. Repairs requesting "Other Labor Hours" with the exception of: (1) paint mix time, (2) administrative allowances for AC-Delco, campaign, and Roosa-Master diesel repairs.
4. Additional credit claims (type code D).
5. Service parts replacement warranty claims (type codes B and C).
6. Claims exceeding the warranty period (i.e., 12/12, 24/24, etc.).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
