THE NEW EXTENDED SERVICE PARTS LIMITED WARRANTY COVERING SELECT ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES AS WELL AS BLUE LINE SHOCK ABSORBERS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED BY GM PARTS (PARTS AND ACCESSORIES INFORMATION BULLETIN 83-132, JULY, 83) TOOK EFFECT JULY 1, 1983. THE BULLETIN EXPLAINED IN DETAIL THE NEW PROGRAM AND IT SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY REVIEWED AND UNDERSTOOD BY ALL AFFECTED DEALERSHIP PERSONNEL. SHOULD THERE BE ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS NEW PROGRAM, THEY SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO YOUR GM PARTS DISTRICT MANAGER OR ZONE OFFICE.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS BULLETIN IS TO ESTABLISH WARRANTY CLAIM FILING PROCEDURES FOR REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS PERFORMED UNDER THIS NEW PROGRAM. FOLLOWING IS A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF CLAIM SUBMISSION PROCEDURES BASED ON THE PREMISE THAT AN APPLICABLE SERVICE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY OR BLUE LINE SHOCK ABSORBER HAS BEEN INSTALLED OR SOLD OVER THE COUNTER BY A GM DEALER.
ENGINE/TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY OR BLUE LINE SHOCK INSTALLED BY GM DEALER:
IF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF A COVERED COMPONENT IS REQUIRED WITHIN 90 DAYS AND 4,000 MILES FROM INSTALLATION, SUBMIT AS CLAIM TYPE 'B' WITH ZONE AUTHORIZATION.
IF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF A COVERED COMPONENT IS REQUIRED AFTER THE INITIAL 90 DAY, 4,000-MILE PERIOD, BUT WITHIN THE 12 MONTH/12,000 MILE OR LIFETIME (ORIGINAL OWNER BLUE LINE SHOCK ONLY) PERIOD; SUBMIT AS CLAIM TYPE 'B' WITH ZONE AUTHORIZATION AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, FAILURE CODE "88".
ENGINE/TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY OR BLUE LINE SHOCK SOLD OVER THE COUNTER BY GM DEALER:
IF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF A COVERED COMPONENT IS REQUIRED WITHIN 90 DAYS OF DATE OF SALE, SUBMIT AS CLAIM TYPE 'C' WITH ZONE AUTHORIZATION.
IF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF A COVERED COMPONENT IS REQUIRED AFTER THE INITIAL 90 DAYS HAVE ELAPSED BUT LESS THAN 12 MONTHS/12,000 MILES OR LIFE- TIME FOR ORIGINAL PURCHASER (SHOCKS ONLY), SUBMIT AS CLAIM TYPE "C" WITH ZONE AUTHORIZATION AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, FAILURE CODE "88".
