PRE-DELIVERY PREPARATION NEW 1983 CADILLACS

DELIVERY OF A NEW CADILLAC FREE FROM ALL ITEMS WORTHY OF CUSTOMER COMMENT IS A CADILLAC DEALERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY THAT PAYS HANDSOME DIVIDENDS IN CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. "THE OWNERS'S FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE THE MOST LASTING", AND DELIVERY QUALITY WILL AFFECT THEIR IMPRESSION OF YOUR DEALERSHIP'S ENTIRE OPERATION. IT IS DIFFICULT TO PERCEIVE OF A MORE IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN OUR CUSTOMER'S OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE.

THE GUIDE TO SYSTEMATIC NEW CAR PREDELIVERY IS THE CADILLAC PRE DELIVERY INSPECTION PROCEDURE CHECK SHEET WHICH HAS BEEN REVISED FOR 1983. A COPY OF THE CHECK SHEET, SIGNED BY INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE FOR INSPECTING AND DELIVERING NEW VEHICLES AS OUTLINED IN THE PROCEDURE, SHOULD BE PRESENTED TO THE OWNER DURING DELIVERY. A SECOND COPY SHOULD BE RETAINED IN THE SERVICE FILE WITH THE NEW CAR PRE-DELIVERY REPAIR ORDER.

AN ESSENTIAL INGREDIENT IN THE PRE-DELIVERY PROCEDURE IS A THOROUGH VEHICLE ROAD TEST. THOSE 1983 CADILLACS EQUIPPED WITH THE HT-4100 DIGITAL FUEL INJECTION POWER SYSTEM PROVIDE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO MAXIMIZE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION THROUGH HIGH MARKS FOR EFFICIENCY, PERFORMANCE, AND DRIVEABILITY. THE SPECIAL HT-4100 FUNCTIONAL ROAD TEST FORM, INTRODUCED LAST YEAR, HAS BEEN UPDATED FOR THE 1983 MODEL. TO ASSIST DEALERS, THE SPECIAL FUNCTIONAL ROAD TEST PROVIDES A THOROUGH VALIDATION PROCEDURE FOR THE HT-4100 ENGINE AND FI SYSTEM. THIS PROCEDURE CAN BE PERFORMED WITHIN THE TIME ALLOCATED FOR THE ROAD TEST PORTION OF THE NORMAL NEW VEHICLE INSPECTION. MANY DEALERS HAVE REPORTED THIS ROAD TEST PROCEDURE TO BE AN EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE STEP IN ASSURING DELIVERY OF NEW CARS FREE OF FUNCTIONAL COMPLAINT ITEMS. THEREFORE, NO DEALERS SHOULD CHOOSE TO FOREGO IT'S BENEFITS.

ONE PAD OF 1983 CADILLAC PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION PROCEDURE CHECK SHEETS AND ONE PAD OF HT4100 FUNCTIONAL ROAD TEST FORMS WERE PREVIOUSLY SHIPPED TO EACH DEALERSHIP ALONG WITH THE 1983 CADILLAC SERVICE INFORMATION MANUALS. ADDITIONAL PADS OF EITHER FORM MAY BE ORDERED AT NO CHARGE FROM HELM, INC., PO. BOX 3617, HIGHLAND PARK, MICHIGAN 48203.

SINCE PRE-DELIVERY CAN DEPLETE THE BATTERY STATE-OF-CHARGE, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT IT BE CHECKED AS THE LAST STEP OF NEW CAR PRE-DELIVERY.

SHOULD DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE OCCUR AFTER A PROLONGED STORAGE PERIOD, THE BATTERY STATE OF CHARGE SHOULD AGAIN BE CHECKED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO DELIVERY.

NORMAL WARRANTY CLAIM PROCEDURES WILL CONTINUE TO APPLY FOR ALL SERVICE OPERATIONS NOT SPECIFIED AS PART OF THE PRE DELIVERY PROCEDURE. ZONE PERSONNEL WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR NEW VEHICLE PREPARATION TO ASSURE ALL STEPS INCLUDED IN THE PRE DELIVERY INSPECTION PROCEDURE ARE BEGIN PERFORMED AND THAT THE HT-4100 FUNCTIONAL ROAD TEST IS BEING COMPLETED WHEN APPLICABLE.

THE PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR 1983 MODELS WILL CONTINUE TO CONTAIN TWO TIME ALLOWANCE ELEMENTS FOR PERFORMING ALL PRESCRIBED ITEMS ON THE INSPECTION CHECK SHEET:

1. A BASE LABOR TIME ALLOWANCE ASSIGNED TO EACH PRICE PRODUCT GROUP.

2. AN ADDITIONAL ALLOWANCE OF 0.1 HOUR FOR EACH $400 INCREMENT OF DEALER PRICE TO A MAXIMUM OF ONE HOUR.

THE COMBINED TIME ALLOWANCE WILL BE COMPUTED ON EACH INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE AND MULTIPLIED BY THE MECHANICAL WARRANTY LABOR RATE TO DETERMINE THE CREDIT FOR PERFORMING PRE DELIVERY SERVICE. ATTACHMENT "A" LISTS THE PRICE PRODUCT GROUPS, THE BASE TIME ALLOWANCE, AND THE ADDITIONAL INSPEC- TION ALLOWANCE BASED ON INVOICE PRICING. THE 1983 PRICE PRODUCT GROUP SCHEDULES AND INSPECTION TIME ALLOWANCES BECOME EFFECTIVE WITH THE SHIPMENT OF 1983 MODELS.

THE 1983 PRE DELIVERY INSEPCTION PROCEDURE CHECK SHEET AS WELL AS THE HT- 4100 FUNCTIONAL ROAD TEST SHOULD BE CAREFULLY REVIEWED BY ALL INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE FOR INSPECTION AND DELIVERY OF NEW VEHICLES. DEALERSHIP MANAGE- MENT SHOULD PERSONALLY MONITOR THIS AREA TO ASSURE THE BEST POSSIBLE NEW VEHICLE PREPARATION QUALITY THROUGHOUT THE MODEL YEAR.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
