Some 1983 and certain 1984 Devilles and Broughams equipped with a 5.7L diesel engine and OM model THM 200-4R transmission may experience a soft or slipping 1-2 shift. Beginning May 7, 1984 (Julian Date 129), the parts in the service package listed below went into production to correct this condition.
Service Package 8639915 for the OM model transmission contains:
1 Control Valve Body Assembly 1 3-4 Accumulator Spring
To correct a soft or slipping 1-2 shift on all 1983 and those 1984 model year OM model transmissions built before Julian Date 129, (Refer to Figures 1 and 2 on reverse side of bulletin for transmission identification information.) remove the control valve body assembly and the 3-4 accumulator spring from the transmission. Replace them with the control valve body assembly and the 3-4 accumulator spring provided in the service package.
For warranty purposes, use labor Operation No. K6560 at 1.1 hours.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
