A new service only front body hinge pillar assembly has been released for 1985-1990 Devilles and Fleetwoods. The new replacement part numbers are 12519332 for the right side and 12519333 for the left side. These parts will require minor body shop changes to be used on the applications.
Use of the replacement part requires the lower mounting flange of the original rocker panel to be reformed to mate properly. The flange must be lowered 8mm (5/16 inch). Additionally, for 1989 and prior vehicles a 16mm (5/8 inch) diameter hole is required for clearance of the front fender attachment. A screw must pass through the front body hinge pillar to attach to a threaded fastener in the original rocker reinforcement.
Figure 1 shows the typical form of the original 1985-1990 front body hinge pillar assembly for both the coupe and sedan versions of DeVilles and Fleetwoods. Figure 2 shows the form of the replacement service part with the modifications noted.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
