COOLING FAN RELAY CONTACTS STICKING (FAN REMAINS ON)

SUBJECT: INTERMITTENT DEAD BATTERY OR COOLING FANS REMAINING ON AFTER IGNITION OFF

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988-1990 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

This bulletin supersedes Service bulletin T-90-19 which should be discarded.

Some 1988-1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience an intermittent dead battery or cooling fans remaining on after the ignition is turned off. This may be caused by one of the cooling fan relay contacts welding together. To correct this condition install cooling fan relays, P/N 25553347, which uses silver-tin oxide contacts to reduce contact welding. A new fan relay bracket P/N 25558149, must also be installed to accommodate the new style relay due to the different size retaining slot on the relay case.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

For warranty purposes use labor Operation T5204 at .2 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
