LEATHER WEAR ON DRIVER'S SEAT BACK (REPLACE FOAM BUN)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989-1990 DE VILLES

Some 1989-1990 DeVilles equipped with leather seats may experience a condition of leather wear on the lower portion of the driver's seat back outside bolster. This may be caused by a support wire in the driver seat back cushion being too close to the surface in the foam. To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Remove seat from car and place on clean surface.

2. Remove head restraint.

3. Undo "J" clip across seat back.

4. Remove hog rings across the seat back.

5. Remove two upper seat back recliner bolts.

6. Remove seat back from seat.

7. Peel off cover.

8. Replace foam bun with P/N 17951921 which has the support wire buried deeper in the foam pad.

9. Replace worn leather on seat back outer bolster.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
