WIRING AND CONNECTOR REPAIR PARTS INFORMATION

IN ADDITION TO THE EXISTING WIRING AND CONNECTOR REPAIR PROGRAM, CADILLAC AND PACKARD ELECTRIC DIVISION HAVE DEVELOPED TWO NEW SYSTEMS, ESSENTIAL TOOL J-38125 TERMINAL REPAIR KIT AND THE CONNECTOR PARTS DATA BASE.

TERMINAL REPAIR KIT (J-38125)

ESSENTIAL TOOL J-38125 CONTAINS MOST COMMONLY USED WIRING TERMINALS (SERVICED BY "FAMILIES") AND CRIMPING TOOLS. THE KIT ALSO INCLUDES A PARTS ORGANIZING AND STOCKING LABEL, A MANUAL TO HELP IDENTIFY TERMINAL FAMILIES, AND ORDERING INFORMATION (TO REPLENISH INDIVIDUAL ITEMS USED FROM THE KIT).

CONNECTOR PARTS DATA BASE

THE ATTACHED CONNECTOR PART NUMBER DATA BASE IS AN ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT (OE) PART NUMBER LIST. THE INTENT OF THE DATA BASE IS TO ASSIST THE GMSPO PARTECH ADVISORS TO IDENTIFY COMPONENTS NEEDED. ONLY SOME OF THE PARTS LISTED ARE ROUTINELY SERVICED THROUGH GMSPO. IN THESE CASES, THE PARTECH ADVISOR CAN USE THE OE PART NUMBER TO FIND A GOOD SERVICE PART NUMBER. IF THE PART IS NOT ROUTINELY SERVICED, THE OE PART NUMBER WILL ASSIST IN ORDERING THE CORRECT PART ON A "NO PART NUMBER" (NPN) BASIS. IF SUFFICIENT DEMAND IS GENERATED FOR SPECIFIC COMPONENTS, THEY WILL BE MADE ROUTINELY AVAILABLE THROUGH GMSPO.

THE 1988 CONNECTOR PARTS DATA BASE FOR ALL CADILLAC MODELS EXCEPT CIMARRON IS ATTACHED.

WIRING REPAIR POLICY

WIRING IS TO BE SERVICED BY REPAIRING WIRES AND REPLACING DAMAGED TERMINALS AND CONNECTORS WHENEVER POSSIBLE. SERVICE PARTS FOR COMPLETE HARNESS ASSEMBLIES ARE AVAILABLE BUT WILL REQUIRE ZONE AUTHORIZATION FOR PAYMENT UNDER WARRANTY.

REPAIR PROCEDURES

WIRING CONNECTORS AND TERMINALS ARE SERVICED IN "FAMILIES". SOME COMMON FAMILY NAMES ARE "WEATHERPACK", "METRI-PACK 150","METRI- PACK 150 SEALED", AND "METRI-PACK 630 P2S (PULL TO SEAT)". GENERAL REPAIR PROCEDURES (CRIMPING AND TERMINAL REMOVAL) CAN BE FOUND IN SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL SECTION 8A-5. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MAY BE FOUND IN THE MANUAL CONTAINED IN ESSENTIAL TOOL J-38125.

REPAIR PROCEDURES FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR) SYSTEMS

REFER TO BULLETIN T-89-86, GROUP 9 (CORPORATE REFERENCE NUMBER 919004) FOR SIR WIRING REPAIR PROCEDURES.

WIRING REPAIR PARTS ORDERING

CADILLAC RECOMMENDS THAT DEALERSHIPS USE THE FOLLOWING FOUR STEP PROCEDURE:

1. CHECK ESSENTIAL TOOL KIT J-38125 TO FIND NEEDED TERMINALS. IF NEEDED PARTS ARE NOT INCLUDED, GO TO STEP 3.

2. CHECK THE GMSPO CARLINE PARTS CATALOG, GROUP 2.535, FOR CONNECTOR REPAIR KITS. IF NEEDED PARTS ARE NOT FOUND GO TO STEP 3.

3. CHECK THE GMSPO STANDARD PARTS CATALOG, GROUP 8.965. SEVERAL CONNECTORS, TERMINALS, AND SEALS ARE LISTED IN THAT GROUP.

4. IF PARTS AREN'T AVAILABLE IN ANY OF THE ABOVE SOURCES, REFER TO THE CONNECTOR COMPONENT DATA BASE.

USE THE COMPONENT DATA BASE TO FIND CONNECTOR DESCRIPTIONS, THEN PART NUMBERS (SEE EXAMPLES FOR USE). RECORD THE PART NUMBERS FROM THE DATA BASE AND CONTACT PARTECH (1-800-433- 6961) TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT SERVICE PART NUMBER. IN MANY CASES, THE PARTECH ADVISOR WILL BE ABLE TO USE THE OE PART NUMBER TO FIND A GOOD SERVICE PART NUMBER FOR THE NEEDED TERMINAL OR CONNECTOR BODY. THAT NUMBER MAY THEN BE ROUTINELY ORDERED. IN SOME CASES, THE PART REQUIRED WILL NOT BE ROUTINELY SERVICED, AND THE OE PART NUMBER WILL ASSIST THE PARTECH ADVISOR IN IDENTIFYING THE CORRECT PART NUMBER TO ORDER THROUGH THE SPAC NO PART NUMBER (NPN) ORDER PROCESS.

CONNECTOR COMPONENT DATA BASE DESCRIPTION

THE ATTACHED CONNECTOR PARTS LIST WILL ASSIST YOU IN IDENTIFYING SERVICE PART NUMBERS FOR ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT WIRING CONNECTORS.

THE PARTS LIST CONTAINS SEVEN FIELDS OF INFORMATION TO HELP YOU PROPERLY IDENTIFY ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PART NUMBERS.

1. CAR ZONE

THE CAR ZONE IS THE MAJOR SORTING FIELD FOR THE LIST. A CAR ZONE MAY BE A PHYSICAL LOCATION, SUCH AS "DOOR" OR "UNDERHOOD", OR IT MAY BE RELATED TO AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SUCH AS "BRAKES" OR "A/C".

2. CONNECTOR DESCRIPTION

IDENTIFIES A SPECIFIC CONNECTOR. INFORMATION ON CAR ZONE, CONNECTOR SIZE AND GENDER (MALE/FEMALE), AND COMMENTS IS INTENDED TO HELP YOU PROPERLY IDENTIFY A SPECIFIC CONNECTOR. MOST CONNECTOR DESCRIPTIONS WILL LIST A SPECIFIC DEVICE TO WHICH THE CONNECTOR MATES, SUCH AS "BLOWER MOTOR" OR "SPEAKER - BOSE". IN SOME CASES, SUCH AS "P/WINDOW MOTOR", THE SAME CONNECTOR IS USED MANY TIMES (ONE IN EACH DOOR), SO IT IS LISTED ONLY ONCE.

3. CONNECTOR PART NUMBER

THE CONNECTOR PART NUMBER IS THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PART NUMBER OF A SPECIFIC CONNECTOR. THIS IS USED TO ASSIST A PARTECH ADVISOR IN IDENTIFYING THE CORRECT SERVICE PART NUMBER.

4. SECONDARY LOCK PART NUMBER

SOME CONNECTORS REQUIRE SEPARATE TERMINAL POSITION ASSURANCE (TPA) COMPONENTS. THESE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PART NUMBERS MAY ASSIST YOUR PARTECH ADVISOR IN IDENTIFYING CORRECT SERVICE PART NUMBERS AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE SPECIFIED WHEN A RELATED CONNECTOR IS ORDERED. THE COMMENTS FIELD MAY CONTAIN MORE INFORMATION ON TPA'S.

5. TERMINAL SERIES

THE NAME OF THE TERMINAL "FAMILY" FOR A SPECIFIC CONNECTOR. THIS MAY ASSIST YOU IN SELECTING THE PROPER TERMINALS FOR USE IN A CONNECTOR AND IT MAY ALSO ASSIST YOUR PARTECH ADVISOR IN LOCATING PROPER SERVICE PART NUMBERS.

IMPORTANT: MOST CONNECTORS USED ON THESE VEHICLES ARE FROM WIDELY USED, SERVICEABLE "FAMILIES". HOWEVER, MANY CONNECTORS, SUCH AS "59 SER MLDD" (MOLDED CONNECTOR), CAN ONLY BE SERVICED BY CONNECTOR REPAIR KITS.

6. CONNECTOR SIZE AND GENDER

THIS FIELD CONTAINS THE SIZE (NUMBER OF TERMINAL CAVITIES) AND TERMINAL GENDER (MALE OR FEMALE) OF A SPECIFIC CONNECTOR. THIS WILL ASSIST YOU IN ASSURING THAT YOU HAVE SELECTED THE CORRECT CONNECTOR FOR A SPECIFIC APPLICATION. FOR EXAMPLE, MANY ECM'S MAY HAVE A 24 TERMINAL CONNECTOR AND A 32 TERMINAL CONNECTOR. THE SIZE AND GENDER MAY HELP YOU ARRIVE AT THE PROPER CONNECTOR.

7. COMMENTS

MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTS ARE INCLUDED WHERE APPROPRIATE. FREQUENTLY THIS WILL BE USED FOR CONNECTOR COLORS OR WHERE ANY OTHER FIELD IS TOO LENGTHY TO FIT IN THE STANDARD FORMAT.

CHECKING THE PARTS CATALOG, NO CONNECTOR REPAIR KIT IS LISTED FOR THE 1988 COOLING FAN. SCANNING THE A/C AND ENGINE "CAR ZONES" IN THE CONNECTOR DATA BASE, YOU STILL DON'T FIND THE COOLING FAN LISTED. UNDER THE "UNDERHOOD" CAR ZONE, YOU FIND THE LISTING FOR "COOLING FAN". YOU VERIFY THAT PART NUMBER 12033769 IS A TWO WAY CONNECTOR, SO YOU BELIEVE THIS IS THE CORRECT PART. THE PARTS DEPARTMENT THEN CONTACTS PARTECH (1-800-433-6961) AND EXPLAINS THE NEED FOR A COOLING FAN CONNECTOR WITH THE OE PART NUMBER 12033769. THE PARTECH ADVISOR CHECKS THE GMSPO SYSTEM AND ADVISES THAT THIS CONNECTOR IS AVAILABLE IN CONNECTOR REPAIR KIT PART NUMBER 12058674. YOU ORDER THAT PART.

2. YOU RECEIVE AN ALLANTE THAT HAS BEEN STOLEN AND PARTIALLY STRIPPED. THE THIEF, THINKING IT WAS A RADIO, STOLE THE COMBO PANEL (CCDIC, RADIO, AND TAPE DECK) WITH THE WIRING CONNECTORS. CHECKING THE PARTS CATALOG, NO CONNECTOR REPAIR KIT IS LISTED FOR THE COMBO PANEL. WHEN REVIEWING THE CONNECTOR DATA BASE YOU FIND THE CCDIC, TAPE PLAYER, AND RADIO HEAD LISTED UNDER THE I/P CAR ZONE. ALL OF THE CONNECTORS PROPERLY MATCH THE "SIZE AND GENDER" LISTED, SO YOU RECORD THE FOUR CONNECTOR PART NUMBERS AND THE THREE SECONDARY LOCK PART NUMBERS. THE PARTS DEPARTMENT THEN CONTACTS PARTECH AND EXPLAINS THAT YOU ARE IN NEED OF THE CONNECTORS FOR AN ALLANTE COMBO PANEL AND GIVE THE ADVISOR THE OE PART NUMBERS YOU IDENTIFIED. THE ADVISOR CONFIRMS THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT ROUTINELY SERVICED AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PLACE AN ORDER THROUGH SPAC USING THE NO PART NUMBER PROCESS.
