USE OF NON-ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT WHEELS AND TIRES

USE OF NON-ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT WHEELS AND TIRES

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989 DEVILLES AND FLEETWOODS -----------------

As an appearance improvement, the rear wheel openings on the 1989 DeVilles and Fleetwoods were designed to provide a closer fit to the new, larger original equipment wheels and Michelin P205/70R 15 tires.

The use of wider tires or wheels with greater offsets than the original equipment components may result in an interference condition under some driving situations and vehicle loads. On DeVilles this condition may be seen as a contact between the top center attaching stud of the wheelhouse eyebrow to the tire sidewall, and on Fleetwoods it may be seen as interference of the wheel skirt brackets to the tire sidewall.

Dealers are advised to use only wheels and tires that match the original equipment specifications for these vehicles.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
