The 1989 Cadillac Eldorados and Sevilles will make use of a new relay. The new relay, referred to as a "Micro-relay", is smaller than the current "ISO" relay, refer to Figure 1, and will become a widely-used part within the next few model years.
On the 1989 Eldorados and Sevilles, Micro-relays are used for the "Twilight Crank" relay and the "Courtesy Lamps" relay. The Micro-relays are taped to the instrument panel wiring channel, just to the driver's side of the Interior Relay Center. The Twilight Crank relay is located above the Courtesy Lamps relay. On the 1989 Allante the fusible links located near the battery have been replaced by a new circuit protection device, the Maxi Fuse, refer to Figure 1.
The Maxi Fuse is very similar to a standard Auto Fuse. The major differences are the physical size and the amperage capacity. The Maxi Fuses are located in a small covered fuse block above the battery, refer to Figure 2. They may be serviced by unplugging them from the fuse block and installing a new part.
The Allante uses eight Maxi Fuses. Most of the Maxi Fuses function similar to fusible links in that they supply high power circuits which are then protected by smaller Auto Fuses. Table 1 summarizes the circuits supplied by each Maxi Fuse. Table 2 lists Maxi Fuse part numbers, amp capacity and color.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
