Some 1989 and early production 1990 DeVille and Fleetwood models may experience a slight exhaust leak at the exhaust pipe mounting flange of the right-hand (rear side) exhaust manifold. Some exhaust manifolds may have been produced without the counterbored shoulder shown in Figure 1. The purpose of this shoulder is to position the metal sleeve, thus keeping the exhaust pipe seal aligned with the manifold.
To repair this condition a second design one-piece exhaust pipe seal has been released which captures the sleeve and seal together. The one-piece exhaust seal is available by ordering P/N 3523071 and supersedes the previous two-piece design.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
