When replacing a compressor on 1985-1990 Cadillacs, inspect, clean, or replace the orifice tube as needed. Then, depending on the model and year either install a service liquid line filter assembly or compressor hose assembly to remove any debris from the refrigerant system. Flushing refrigerant systems with R11 is not a recommended service procedure and will not be included in the labor time allowances. The chart below lists the service parts by model and year.
Liquid Comp. Hose Line Assembly Model Model Year P/N* P/N** Other -------- ---------- -------- ------------ --------- DeVille/ 1985-1987 25535702 Fleetwood 1988 25535703 1989-1990 25533643 1991 25550234
Brougham 1986-1989 1648926 1990-1991 Replace condenser, liquid line, and inspect/clean/replace orifice tube after replacing compressor.

Allante 1987-1990 1648925 1991 Replace condenser, liquid line, and inspect/clean/replace orifice tube after replacing compressor.
* Install liquid line filter assembly after replacing compressor and inspecting/cleaning/replacing the orifice tube. If the orifice tube screen has ripped, the evaporator may require replacement due to contamination.
** Replace compressor hose assembly after replacing compressor and inspecting/cleaning/replacing the orifice tube. The muffler on the compressor hose assembly contains screens to trap debris from contaminating the refrigerant system in the event of a compressor failure and requires replacement along with the compressor.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
