REAR WINDOW LACE PAINT REPAIR

SUBJECT: REAR WINDOW LACE PAINT REPAIR (PAINT REPAIR)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989-92 "C" MODELS

This bulletin is being revised to add the 1990-1992 model years.

This bulletin contains rear window lace paint repair information for 1989-1992 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, and 60 Specials without vinyl roofs. The following paint systems from PPG, DuPont, and RM are intended for spot repairs or the entire primed lace as supplied by GMSPO. They should be applied with the lace installed on the car with adjacent surfaces suitably protected.

PPG

The following recommendation is for Deltron acrylic urethane base coat with NCT flexible clear coat.

1. Solvent wipe substrate with DX-330 Grease and Wax Remover using clean, lint-free towels.

2. Apply one medium coat of DSX-1900 Bonding Clear. Allow 5-10 minutes flash time.

3. Base coat reduction - 1 part color: 1-1/2 - 2 parts DRR reducer.

IMPORTANT: Use appropriate reducer for shop conditions.

Application: Apply 2-3 medium coats of base coat. Allow 5-10 minutes between coats. Let base coat dry for 15 minutes before applying clear.

4. NCT clear coat reduction - 1 part clear : 1 part activator : 1/4 part flex agent.

IMPORTANT: Use appropriate activator for shop conditions.

Application: Apply two wet coats of clear. Allow 5-10 minutes between coats.

IMPORTANT: If dry edge appears, blend immediately with one coat of DT-95 solvent.

Allow overnight air dry or force dry at 180 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes before putting into service.

Materials Required:

DBU Factory Package Color DRR Reducer (1170, 1185) DX-1798 Flex Agent DC Activator (1260, 1275, 1290) DT-95 Solvent (for blending) DX-330 Grease and Wax Remover DSX-1900 Bonding Clear

DU PONT

Centari Acrylic Urethane Enamel:

1. Solvent wipe surface with 3939S Lacquer and Enamel Cleaner.

2. Apply Centari Basemaker to full hiding per label directions.

3. Upon proper dry, apply two coats of 1080S Uro Clear per label directions.

Cronar Polyoxithane Enamel:

1. Solvent wipe surface with 3939S Lacquer and Enamel Cleaner.

2. Apply one coat of 9222S Cronar Adhesion Promoter.

3. Apply Cronar Polyoxithane Enamel base coat per label directions.

4. Upon proper dry, apply two coats of 1080S Uro Clear per label directions.

RM

The following recommendation is for Diamont base coat/clear coat for Cadillac/flexible rubber molding.

1. Solvent wipe the flexible rubber molding with 900 Pre- Kleano/Wax and Silicone Remover using lint-free cloth.

2. Light scuff OEM painted substrate with Scotchbrite-Ultra fine grade, then solvent rinse with 901 Pre-Paint Cleaner.

3. Apply one medium wet coat of Diamont base coat color or until hiding has been achieved. Allow 3-5 minutes flash in between coats.

Reduction - Base coat color = 2 parts by volume BR Reducer = 2 parts by volume

IMPORTANT: Use appropriate reducer for shop condition. Allow at least 15 minutes to flash before applying flexible clear coat.

4. DC-88 Flexible clear coat reduction - DC-88 Diamond Clear: 4 vol. parts DH-44 Hardener: 1 vol. parts

Application: Apply two wet coats of above clear. Allow 5- 10 minutes flash time in between coats.

5. Overnight drying at room temperature is suggested but could be force dried at 160 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 60 minutes before putting into service.

Diamond Base Coat Color's Diamont DC-88 Clear BR-50/BR-60 Base Coat Reducers Diamond DH-44 Hardener Pre-Kleano 900 Wax/Silicone Remover 901 Pre-Paint Cleaner

For vehicles repaired under warranty use:

Labour Time: 1.0 hour.
