INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER DOOR LOCK, SEATS, & MIRRORS

SUBJECT: INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER DOOR LOCKS, SEATS, AND MIRRORS, FUSE #35 BLOWS (REPAIR WIRING)

MODELS: 1993-94 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY EXPERIENCE AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION IN WHICH THE #35 FUSE BLOWS, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF POWER DOOR LOCKS, POWER SEATS, AND POWER MIRRORS.

CAUSE:

THERE MAY BE A SHORT TO GROUND IN THE DOOR LOCK CIRCUIT (1040 IN 1993 AND 2040 FOR 1994) IN THE REAR DOORS AT THE FORWARD OR LOWER EDGE OF THE FRONT WINDOW RUN CHANNEL. THE CIRCUIT IS SHOWN ON PAGE 8A-130-0. THE HARNESS ROUTING IS SHOWN ON PAGE 8A-201-37, FIGURE 58.

CORRECTION:

TO CHECK FOR THIS CONDITION WITHOUT REMOVING THE DOOR TRIM PANELS, FIRST REMOVE FUSE #35 WITH THE IGNITION OFF. CONNECT A TEST LIGHT ACROSS THE FUSE HOLDER TERMINALS. THEN TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH ON AND OPEN THE DOORS. MOVE THE WINDOWS UP AND DOWN, AND MOVE THE WIRE HARNESS AROUND AT THE POINT WHERE IT ENTERS THE DOOR. IF THIS TEST LIGHT TURNS ON, IT INDICATES A SHORT TO GROUND IN THE CIRCUIT. REMOVE THE DOOR TRIM PANEL AND REPAIR AS NEEDED. USE TIE STRAPS TO SECURE THE HARNESS TO AVOID FURTHER CONTACT WITH MOVING PARTS. IF THE TEST LIGHT STAYS OFF, DIAGNOSE USING NORMAL METHODS.
